These photographs are among those included in the solo exhibition of Golden’s work that was the inaugural exhibit at the Hadas Gallery, located across the street from the Pratt Institute, during January 2011. The photographs in this exhibition demonstrated how a work of visual art directs the viewer’s eyes, whether into the image, on the image’s surface, or back and forth without apparent resolution.

Golden curated this exhibition mounted by the Brooklyn Public Library on Grand Army Plaza from September to November 2009. The exhibit’s title was “Nature, Seen in Brooklyn Now and Then: Three Photographers Look at Brooklyn, Brainerd, Austin and Golden, 1877-2009.” The show brought together the works of a late nineteenth, an early twentieth century and a contemporary photographer portraying the natural environment as it appeared in their times. These images were among Golden’s photographs that were included in the exhibit.

The photographs shown in this exhibition portray surviving defensive structures from the 1790's, throughout the nineteenth century and into the 1960's. Although the images concentrate on the defense of New York Harbor, what happened here exemplified coastal defense strategies being implemented throughout the country. The most advanced designs and meticulous attention to craft went into making these massive and costly public works, but the rapid evolution of military technology soon made these defenses obsolete.
These photographs were included in a solo exhibit held during June and July 2016 at the Lilac, a former U.S. Coast Guard lighthouse tender moored in the Hudson River at Pier 25.
